Mexico City Air: Good News and Regulations

The air quality in Mexico City was categorized as 'good' on Tuesday, March 4, which led the Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis not to declare an environmental contingency that day. However, there were reports about circulation restrictions for Wednesday, March 5, in case there was any contingency, as part of the measures to reduce pollution.

According to the environmental contingency program, the vehicles that can circulate this Wednesday, March 5, are electric and hybrid cars, as well as those with ecological license plates or exempt hologram type. Vehicles with hologram '00' or '0', private cars of medical and paramedical personnel, ambulances, as well as those for school transport, funeral processions, and funeral services are also included in the list.

Additionally, the circulation of cars for persons with disabilities that have the corresponding permit is allowed, vehicles identified as public passenger service and tourism, motorcycles with a Tourist Pass or permit from the Secretary of the Environment, and vehicles that have pink, blue, yellow, and green stickers are permitted.

The 'Hoy No Circula' program will apply normally in the 18 municipalities of the State of Mexico and in the 16 boroughs of Mexico City this Wednesday, March 5, as the Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis did not declare an environmental contingency. The circulation restrictions will particularly apply to cars with red stickers, hologram 1 or 2, and plates ending in 3 and 4, from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

Regarding the question of whether there will be a double Hoy No Circula this Wednesday, the answer is negative, as the implementation of such additional restriction is not contemplated.
